SMUIN BALLET
Smuin Ballet (Celia Fushille, Artistic & Executive Director) will perform a special New York City engagement this summer, August 13th – 18th, 2012 at The Joyce Theater, 175 Eighth Avenue (at 19th Street).
The acclaimed company is returning to the Joyce with its signature bold, sexy, and innovative dance. The performances will include: founder Michael Smuin’s Medea, a powerfully hypnotic work created during his tenure as artistic director of San Francisco Ballet; and the New York premieres of Oh, Inverted World, by Trey McIntryre set to music by indie-rock band The Shins; and Soon These Two Worlds, an effervescent ballet by Choreographer in Residence Amy Seiwert and set to pulsating music from the Grammy Award-winning Kronos Quartet’sPieces of Africa.

Limon Stamp Comes Out July 27th!
The US Postal Service will honor José Limón with the release of a USPS Innovative Choreographers Forever postage stamp on July 28th!
José Limón was chosen to be featured on the stamp to honor his contribution to the art of dance, shaping the American Modern Dance movement as both a leading male dancer of his generation and a master choreographer. Limón created over 70 works, many of which have been deemed classics.

Katharina Wagner, codirectora del Festival wagneriano de Bayreuth, reconoció este jueves 27 de julio que se ve enfrentada a resistencias dentro del clan familiar para esclarecer y superar totalmente su pasado nazi. Hay cuatro ramas en la familia Wagner, no toda son «accesibles» ni están dispuestas a abrir sus respectivos archivos a la opinión pública y a los historiadores, admitió la biznieta del compositor Richard Wagner a la prensa alemana.

The competitors for the 2012 Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition Hannover‹ have now been selected. Applications were received from 178 young violinists from all over the world – some 38% more than in 2009. This is the highest number in the history of the Competition and demonstrates the degree of international recognition it has achieved since it was first established in 1991.

The XX Stars of the White Nights International Music Festival has come to a close
On 15 July a performance of Giacomo Puccini’s opera Tosca featuring Maria Guleghina and Vladimir Galouzine brought the XX anniversary Stars of the White Nights International Music Festival to a close. The theatre’s 229th season lasts until 22 July. Over fifty-two days, the festival presented some one hundred performances and concerts which were attended by over one hundred and fifty thousand people.
