American Ballet Theatre has long been recognised as one of America's top dance companies. It annually performs for more than 600,000 people, and has toured to over 40 countries around the world.
This season, part of Spring Dance at the London Coliseum, features the classics Swan Lake and Le Corsaire.
The company is renowned for its wide-ranging repertoire and has commissioned works by all of the great choreographic geniuses of the 20th century. Now ABT returns to London with the full company, featuring some of the world's finest principal dancers. Set to Tchaikovsky's magnificent score, and featuring lavish costumes and sets, ABT's spectacular Swan Lake has captured the hearts and minds of audiences worldwide.
With a place firmly at the top of the ballet canon, Swan Lake tells the classic story of Princess Odette who is turned into a swan by the evil magician Rothbart. The ballet has been revised and performed countless times around the world but this American Ballet Theatre production is based on the definitive Petipa and Ivanov production which was originally presented at the Mariinsky Theatre in 1895.
These are perfectly showcased in Le Corsaire, an exotic fable of a pirate’s love for a beautiful slave girl that combines bravura dancing with lavish sets and costumes. Performed to Adolph Adam's classic score, the cast of over 100 performers whisk the audience from the exuberance of a Pasha's palace to a dramatic shipwreck scene on the high seas, in a treasure trove of virtuoso dancing.
This is a rare opportunity to see the entire American Ballet Theatre company perform in one of London's grandest and most historic dance venues.
