A Ballet Gala in memory of the legendary dancer.
A Ballet Gala in memory of the legendary ballet star Rudolph Nureyev, celebrating his extraordinary career from Kirov soloist to masterly choreographer.
London Coliseum 21 March - Londres, Reino Unido.
After his defection to the West in 1961, Nureyev became a household name – delighting audiences with his electrifying and daring performances – but he never forgot his roots and did much to revive the Russian tradition. Perhaps the greatest male dancer since Nijinksky, his longstanding partnership with Dame Margot Fonteyn of the Royal Ballet was one of the most famous in the history of dance.
In this special gala concert, Nureyev's dance and choreographic repertoire will be performed by international stars from the Bolshoi, Mariinsky, Royal Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet and Berlin Staatsballet. Among them: Igor Zelensky, Polina Semionova, Yevgenia Obraztsova, Svetlana Zakharova, Andrei Merkuriev, Dmitri Gudanov, Manuel Legris, Gil Roman, Olga Esina, Marianela Nunez, Thiago Soares, Alina Cojocaru, Johan Kobborg, David Makhateli, Roberta Marquez, Dmitri Gruzdyev, Farukh Ruzimatov, Mara Galeazzi, Ivan Putrov, Sarah Lamb, Inaki Urlezaga and others.
Organised by Ensemble Productions Ltd.
About The Coliseum Until the recent restoration project, no substantial programme of repair has been carried out on this historic London landmark since it first opened its doors in 1904. The London Coliseum, which is London's largest theatre, is cited as being architect Frank Matcham's crowning achievement. In its 100 year history it has played host to many forms of entertainment, including horse races, musicals, variety, cinema and, since 1968, opera. www.ifbarts.com
