Bernstein Dances
Portrait of a genius: celebrating the creator of “West Side Story” through the lens of dance.

A ballet revue by John Neumeier, inspired by Leonard Bernstein’s music and personality, for Leonard Bernstein

The composer, pianist, conductor, teacher, and bon vivant Leonard Bernstein was one of the most important musician personalities of the 20th century. The Hamburg Ballet (John Neumeier) will be devoting a dance homage to the great artist.
Performance ends at approx.: 20:30 Uhr
Sponsor: Klaus and Hella Janson.

Anna Karenina
The great Russian novel forms the backdrop for a spectacular ballet.
Ballet by John Neumeier, inspired by Leo Tolstoi. Music by Peter I. Tchaikovsky, Alfred Schnittke, Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam.

Bringing the “greatest social novel of world literature” (Thomas Mann) to the ballet stage: this is an art that none has mastered like John Neumeier. With Anna Karenina, he has created a classical love story that feels modern with its intimate pas de deux and festive ensembles, while Tchaikovsky’s music evokes the time the novel was written.
Performance ends at approx.: 22:15 Uhr
Sponsor: Männi and Didi Herrmann
In collaboration with: the Bolshoi Ballet and The National Ballet of Canada.
