La noticia del estreno de “Majísimo” por el American Ballet Theatre en la gala de apertura de la nueva temporada de 2011, después de casi medio siglo de su creación en Cuba, causó tanta sorpresa como alegría y orgullo en los baletómanos cubanos que conocíamos este excitante divertissement.
Para algunos pocos, como yo, la inclusión de “Majísimo” en la gala del ABT fue un privilegio especial por tres razones distintas: ser cubano, ser amigo del coreógrafo Jorge (Georges) García y haber presenciado su estreno en el teatro Amadeo Roldán (antiguo teatro Auditórium) de La Habana en 1965.

On June 26, this year’s Hamburger Ballett-Tage open with the world premiere of John Neumeier’s new ballet Purgatorio. Until July 10, when the Nijinsky-Gala XXXVII makes the grand finale of the festival, The HAMBURG BALLET will present the season’s repertoire highlights danced by superior casts and will welcome the National Ballet of China as guest company.

On June 24, The Bavarian State Ballet celebrates the revival of Don Quijote
With the beginning of the Bavarian State Ballet’s summer season, the Knight of the Woeful Countenance and his trusty esquire Sancho Panza will again conquer the stage of the Prinzregententheater. For the performances on June 24 and 26, ballet director Ivan Liška has also contracted the celebrated Bolshoi ballerina Ekaterina Krysanova as Kitri.
This month-long season of international co-productions is presented by Sadler’s Wells and the Barbican to celebrate the Olympic and Paralympic year’s global focus and one of the most influential choreographers in dance, Pina Bausch.
