El mítico Mambo hechiza a la mexicana Cecilia Rivera
Energía pura. Esto es lo que destila la Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar de Venezuela bajo la batuta de Gustavo Dudamel cuando interpreta el «Mambo» de «West Side Story» de Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990) en sus conciertos.
Dudamel ni siquiera imagina que la mexicana Cecilia Rivera, formada en Ciudad de México y en el Museo del Louvre de París, puede sentirse tan fascinada por la ejecución de este centenar de jóvenes venezolanos que inmediatamente lleva al lienzo el movimiento y hasta el espíritu que inspira a este vibrante ritmo nacido en Cuba en la década de 1930.

NEW YORK CITY BALLET TO PRESENT THIRD DANCERS’ CHOICE PROGRAM ON SUNDAY, JUNE 12.
New York City Ballet will present its third Dancers’ Choice program on Sunday, June 12 at 7:30 PM. A benefit for NYCB’s Dancers’ Emergency Fund, the event was conceived by NYCB’s Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins in 2008 to give the Company’s dancers an opportunity to plan a NYCB performance. This year Soloist Adrian Danchig-Waring and Corps de Ballet member Amanda Hankes will oversee the evening’s programming and casting, as well as the marketing and promotional efforts.

En la segunda semana de su temporada, el American Ballet Theatre (ABT) decidió guardar en el closet por tres días, las obras clásicas que el público ha demostrado infinidad de veces preferir, y trajo al escenario tres ballets de estreno, contemporáneos y abstractos, originales de coreógrafos considerados los más aplaudidos de la actualidad. Me refiero, por supuesto, a Sergei Ratmansky, coreógrafo-en-residencia de la compañía; a Benjamin Millepied, bailarín principal del New York City Ballet (NYCB), y Christopher Wheeldon. Este último ya tiene obras en el repertorio, no solo del ABT, sino de importantes conjuntos internacionales.

En el día de ayer, en la provincia de Córdoba, falleció nuestro querido y recordado Ricardo Adolfo Cassinelli.
Tenor de carácter, célebre por sus dotes histriónicas y por su humor, Ricardo Cassinelli representa toda una época en la historia del Teatro Colón, al que estaba unido desde sus inicios en el Instituto Superior de Arte y a partir de 1973 como activo integrante de sus elencos de ópera, así como del Coro Estable.
ROBIN BECKER’S MARCH INTO SUNLIGHT
ROBIN BECKER DANCE presents Into Sunlight, a new evening-length work inspired by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David Maraniss' book They Marched Into Sunlight, Friday June 10, 8 PM at the 92nd Street Y's Buttenweiser Hall. Into Sunlight deals with the trauma of war and its impact on the human condition.
The work has been presented at the University of Wisconsin/Madison and Hofstra University,NY, where Ms. Becker is an associate professor of dance. In a New York Times feature article before the April Hofstra performances, writer Karin Lipson remarked that the path to Into Sunlight "started years ago with Ms. Becker's concern over the American invasion of Iraq in 2003.

JOHAN KOBBORG TO PERFORM WITH AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE IN GISELLE, SATURDAY MATINEE, MAY 28, 2011 AT METROPOLITAN OPERA HOUSE.
Johan Kobborg, a principal dancer with the Royal Ballet in London, will make his first appearance with American Ballet Theatre as a guest artist at the matinee on Saturday, May 28 in Giselle. It was announced today by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie. Kobborg will dance the role of Albrecht in Giselle replacing Maxim Beloserkovsky who is injured.

To celebrate the Mariinsky Label birthday
Today, on 25 May, the Mariinsky Label, own record label of the Mariinsky Theatre, turns 2 years.
During its short but vivid and eventful history, the label has produced nine releases and achieved enormous popularity in Russia and abroad. Recordings were marked by the editor’s choice of the world’s leading music magazines. Launched by Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre in 2009, the label provided an opportunity for everyone to get acquainted with best music works performed by the Mariinsky Theatre artists under Valery Gergiev. Discs are recorded at the Mariinsky Concert Hall, which is equipped with a modern equipment in order to produce discs in SACD format.

Continu: un Sacre du printemps reciclado
La compañía de Sasha Waltz, reconocida coreógrafa alemana a la que en su despunte se le llamó la “nueva Pina Bausch” -sin más coincidencia que la nacionalidad y el género, aunque como a continuación me referiré sí hay determinadas influencias, pero muy puntuales para el caso-, ha presentado en el Teatro de la Ville de París, imprescindible templo de todo lo que sea “contemporáneo” en este mundo, un “Continu” –datado de 2009 – que si bien sobresale con creces por la reciedumbre del talento abstracto de Waltz en el panorama de la danza actual que no remite al espejo del “lenguaje clásico”, no es sino un reciclaje del “Sacre du printemps” en las versiones de Maurice Béjart y, voilà, Pina Bausch.
