Maya Plisetskaya is one of the most outstanding dancer of the second half of the 20th century. Immediately after graduation from the Moscow Choreography School she became well-known, creating her own style which is characterized by a brilliant technique, elegance, perfection of each individual gesture and pose, always in combination with her beautiful dramatic art and extraordinary musicality.

This box set pays homage to prima ballerina Mayua Plisetskaya, with five of the dancer's most beloved performances. Included are: Bolshoi Theatre production of Carmen-Suite with themes from Georges Bizet's Carmen, choreographed by Alberto Alonso, and danced by Plisetskaya and Alexander Godunov, with accompaniment by the Ballet and Orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre; Romantic Encounter by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, choreographed by Valentin Elisariev, and danced by Plisetskaya and Anatoly Berdyshev; Grand adage à la Rose from Pyotr Illych Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty, danced by Plisetskaya and The Bolshoi Ballet Dancers; La Rose Malade from Gustav Mahler's Adagietto from the Fifth Symphony, choreographed by Roland Petit and danced by Plisetskaya and Valery Kovtun; and Ave Maya by Johann Sebastian Bach and Charles Gounod, choreographed by Maurice Béjart and danced solo by Plisetskaya. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi.
