The Genée International Ballet Competition 2013 has come to a spectacular close. 58 candidates from 14 different countries gathered in Glasgow from 20–29 September to endure 9 days of intense training, sweat and stage fright in order to compete for the coveted gold, silver and bronze medals.
Consistently high standards left judges Darcey Bussell CBE (prima ballerina and President of the RAD), Kevin O’Hare (Director of The Royal Ballet) and Christopher Hampson (Artistic Director of Scottish Ballet) with a difficult decision. James Whiteside has been promoted to Principal Dancer with American Ballet Theatre, it was announced today by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie. The promotion is effective October 30, 2013.
Born in Fairfield, Connecticut, James Whiteside began his training at age nine at the D’Valda & Sirico Dance and Music Centre, where guest faculty included Franco De Vita and Raymond Lukens. He continued his training at the Virginia School of the Arts for one year under the direction of Petrus Bosman and David Keener. In 2002, Whiteside joined Boston Ballet II. He joined the corps de ballet of Boston Ballet in 2003 and became a second soloist in 2006. He was promoted to first soloist in 2008 and to principal dancer with Boston Ballet in 2009.

Vingt ans après sa disparition, Rudolf Noureev demeure une légende. Le 19 octobre 2013, grâce au don important de la Fondation Noureev et à son aide précieuse, le Centre national du costume de scène aura le privilège d’ouvrir un espace permanent, lieu de mémoire, dédié à la Collection Noureev qui présente la carrière exceptionnelle et la vie unique de cette étoile de la danse.
