The GELSEY KIRKLAND ACADEMY, under the direction of Gelsey Kirkland and Michael Chernov, announces its Spring Performance, featuring approximately 45 dancers in a program of original ballets, character dances, excerpts from ballets by Petipa and Bournonville, and George Balanchine's rarely seen comic ballet A La Francaix, Thursday June 2, 7:30 PM, at the Miller Theater/Columbia University, 2690 Broadway (at 116th Street).
UN DON QUIJOTE QUE LLEVA PERFUME CARIBEÑO.
Antes de hacer mi reseña, quisiera citar un conocido dicho, muy verídico: “estar en el lugar indicado, en el momento preciso”. Me refiero a la lastimadura sufrida por Herman Cornejo, programado para interpretar el codiciado papel de Basilio, en una de los montajes de “Don Quijote” del American Ballet Theatre (ABT) que ocuparía una semana completa en el escenario del neoyorquino Metropolitan del Lincoln Center. La ausencia de Cornejo propició la aparición del bailarín cubano Rolando Sarabia en el role.

La compañía Fêtes Galantes de Béatrice Massin (ex bailarina de Ris et Danceries, asi como asistente y colaboradora de Francine Lancelot, además de coreógrafa en esta agrupación), presentó el pasado 17 de mayo en la Opéra Comique de París “La belle dame” (estrenada en febrero en el Centro Nacional de Danza de Pantin), un homenaje de una hora de duración a Francine Lancelot, a quien tanto le debe la “danza barroca”-en realidad, la “belle danse”, la “danza noble” del siglo XVII- por haberla rescatado y “reconstruido”.
De Béatrice Massin recordaba sobre todo el extraordinario filme “Le roi danse” de Gérard Corbiau, para el que realizó la coreografía y la asesoría en consecuencia.

In the autumn of 2011 the Royal Academy of Arts will stage a landmark exhibition focusing on Edgar Degas’s preoccupation with movement as an artist of the dance. Degas and the Ballet: Picturing Movement will trace the development of the artist’s ballet imagery throughout his career, from the documentary mode of the early 1870s to the sensuous expressiveness of his final years.

La Royal Academy of Arts londinense anunció una próxima exposición de Edgar Degas (1834-1917) centrada en sus famosas imágenes de bailarinas pero que se fijará especialmente en la influencia de la fotografía y el cine en su particular visión del cuerpo en movimiento.
"Degas y el Ballet: Retratando el Movimiento", que podrá visitarse del 17 septiembre hasta el 11 de diciembre, reflejará la evolución de su tratamiento formal de esa temática, desde el más bien documental del principio de su carrera hasta la expresividad sensual que caracteriza a sus años finales.
