Ya el American Ballet Theatre (ABT) ha presentado otras veces una función dedicada a los hispanos en su usual temporada en el Metropolitan de Nueva York. No obstante, la Gala de este año celebrada el 16 de mayo, sin ser denominada como un homenaje a los hispanos, tal parecía ser así.

Jean Genet/Angelin Preljocaj en el Teatro de la Ville de París

 

El Teatro de la Ville de París ha presentado en su segunda sede del teatro de Abbesses (en pleno corazón de Montmartre), el solo “El funámbulo”, de un poco más de una hora de duración, una obra de Angelin Preljocaj que data de 2009 sobre el “poema en prosa” del mismo título del escritor francés Jean Genet, que se publicó en Gallimard en 1955.

Preljocaj, el intérprete de su propio solo (el coreógrafo le debería al texto iluminador de Genet el decidirse por su vocación, o sea, se trata de una pieza decididamente personal), decidió para esta ocasión transmitirle la obra al ex danseur étoile de la Ópera de París Wilfried Romoli, recordado todavía por su sensibilidad “contemporánea”.

In the next few days our Ballet Company will make a tour of Israel, performing at the Amphitheater in Caesarea. The Amphitheater was built for sports and cultural events during the reign of Herod the Great at the beginning of the first millennium and is one of the most beautiful landmarks of the ancient architecture. This unique ancient hall with a capacity of 3,800 people, to this day continues to serve as a venue for significant cultural events.

Les Etoiles pour le Japon, Gala de ballet de Charité, le 31 mai 2011 au Palais de Congrès

Le 11 mars 2011, un séisme de magnitude 9.0 sur l’échelle de Richter a frappé la région nord-est du Japon et a été suivi d'un tsunami qui a tout dévasté sur un territoire de plus de cinq kilomètres à l’intérieur des terres, emportant ainsi la vie de plus de 30 000 personnes. Plusieurs milliers de maisons ont été détruites, laissant plus d'un demi-million de Japonais sans domicile. Frappée par le tsunami, la centrale nucléaire de Fukushima a subi d'importants dégâts, causant de nombreuses fuites d’éléments radioactifs. Ces incidents ont entraîné l'évacuation de plus d'un million de Japonais.

AMERICAN DANCE FESTIVAL DEDICATES 2011 SEASON TO ALEX KATZ

The American Dance Festival (ADF) is pleased to dedicate its 78th season to acclaimed visual artist, Alex Katz. Mr. Katz is a long-time friend and supporter of the ADF, having created nine season posters since 1979, including the 2011 season poster. The ceremony will be held June 10 at 8pm prior to the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company performance at the Durham Performing Arts Center.

NEW YORK CITY BALLET APPOINTS ELLEN BAR DIRECTOR OF MEDIA PROJECTS

 

New York City Ballet Executive Director Katherine Brown announced today that NYCB Soloist Ellen Bar has been appointed the Company’s new Director of Media Projects.

Bar, who has been a member of New York City Ballet since 1998, will give her final performance as a dancer with the Company in George Balanchine’s Vienna Waltzes on Sunday, May 15, and will assume her new position on May 18.

ABE ABRAHAM PREMIERES HIS NEW MOVEMENT STUDY FILM

 

Abe Abraham's exquisite film Wind and Tree was created especially for the medium of film and inspired by a poem by Pulitzer Prize winning poet Paul Muldoon. The young filmmaker/dancer founded his company, Abanar, for the purpose of expanding perceptions of movement through film.

For Abe, film becomes a partner in the creation of dance.
