On the occasion of the 'European Year of Creativity and Innovation', the European Opera Forum 2009 will focus on how opera relates to these themes.
In 2009, the European Opera Forum will be hosted by Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona from 17 to 19 April, and the European Opera Days will celebrate the European Year of Creativity and Innovation on 9 May, Europe Day, all over the continent.

Programme
The three-day programme will be divided into three principal strands:
• The primary creators: exploration of their work with leading composers and writers
• The secondary creators: presentation of the work of the most innovative production teams
• Creative ways of reaching new audiences: initiatives with television, cinema, internet
The themes of the forum will be set out on the opening Friday afternoon. They will be investigated in depth during parallel sessions during the central Saturday. Sunday will bring together the reactions of all participants.
Young participants
Once again, young opera fans will be encouraged to take part in the debates and bring creative and innovative points of view to the table. All young people (up to 30 years old) are welcome to register as ‘young participants’, and each opera company is invited to sponsor the participation of 2 young delegates.
RESEO creative residency
During the Forum, starting with a gathering on Thursday evening, RESEO will be running a Creative Residency, as the culmination of a year's work looking at ways for artists to engage people of all ages in the making of opera. Led by an experienced team of artists, the two-day residency will be open to young Europeans aged 18-25 who have interest in performing. The fruits of their labours will be presented to delegates on the final morning of the Forum.
European Opera-directing Prize
The lucky finalists of the Opera-directing Prize will meet during the Forum each to lead a directing workshop with young singers in front of their jury. These sessions will be open to all participants, who will be able to witness these young production teams at work, developing their ideas and staging excerpts from Mozart’s opera La finta giardiniera.
European opera diaries DVD
Over the three days, participants will have the opportunity to leave a message in front of our camera. The material will be edited into a DVD in order to be shown all over Europe by companies participating in the European Opera Days on 9 May.
Performances
Gran Teatre del Liceu will be staging two operas during the weekend:
Friday 17 April: dress rehearsal of La Cabeza del Bautista (free)
