The Board of Directors of New York International Ballet Competition (NYIBC), announces that the 11th NYIBC will take place at the Rose Theater/Lincoln Center in June 2013, celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the founding of NYIBC by Ilona Copen and Igor Youskevitch. The organization was founded in 1983 and the first public event was held in 1984 in New York City.
Since the February 2010 passing of Ilona Copen, the NYIBC Board of Directors and Artistic Board created the Ilona Copen Award, presented for the first time to Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux and Patricia McBride in a Gala celebrating the life and work of Ms. Copen.
The unforgettable evening of dance showcased artists, including several alumni, from seven major companies: American Ballet Theatre, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Dance Theatre of Harlem, The Joffrey Ballet, Limon Dance Company, New Jersey Ballet and North Carolina Dance Theatre.
Marcia de la Garza, who worked closely with Ilona Copen at NYIBC, World Dance Alliance (WDA), and the International Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (IDC-ITI) since 2005, was recently appointed Executive Director by the Board of Directors.

New York International Ballet Competition
Educating, mentoring and providing performance and career advancement opportunities since 1984.
Founded by ILONA COPEN and IGOR YOUSKEVITCH
NYIBC is a three-week intensive program of artistic education and professional training with outstanding performance, net-working, and career advancement opportunities for forty-eight talented young dancers from countries around the world, all of whom receive full scholarships to participate. NYIBC nurtures promising dancers ages 17 to 24 from all ethynicities and socio-economic backgrounds, providing them with an exceptional opportunity to focus on training to perform at their highest artistic level.
As our guests in New York, NYIBC participants learn repertory that includes two classical pas de deux and a contemporary duet. They train with world renowned teachers and coaches, under high standards of fairness.
NYIBC's unique format attracts talent-seeking artistic directors and choreographers, who feel confident that dancers mentored and trained at NYIBC can endure the rhythm of work and life in a professional ballet company.
Beyond having access to extraordinary opportunties, and receiving medals, awards and cash prizes, during their time at NYIBC the dancers form an international company in which lifelong associations are born.
