Dancers Over 40 announces it first event of the 2010-11 season: Agnes de Mille: From Ballet to Broadway, a celebration of the life and work of great American choreographer/dancer AGNES DE MILLE, October 11, 8 PM, at St. Luke's Theatre.

Dancers Over 40 has assembled an amazing group of artists who worked in ballets and Broadway shows choreographed by de Mille, going back to Iva Withers, featured in both Oklahoma! and Carousel in the 1940's, and Bambi Linn, the dancing Laurie in the original Oklahoma! stage production and movie. The evening will also feature clips of Agnes de Mille speaking and performing.

DO40 Legacy Award Winner Gemze de Lappe, who worked extensively with de Mille,
will bring together many of the remaining creative artists of the time for two different panels, one focusing on de Mille ballets and the other on her Broadway choreography.

De Mille ballets:
** Gemze De Lappe, longtime de Mille assistant and recreator of her choreography
** Christine Sarry (danced the lead in Rodeo with American Ballet Theatre. Rodeo was created in 1942 for the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo)
** Bill Guske (Rodeo and Fall River Legend, 1948, with American Ballet Theatre. Sebastian, 1957, for ABT workshop)
** Gail Reese (The Four Marys, created for ABT in 1965)

De Mille Broadway and film choreography – Moderator is Ted Chapin, President of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization:

** Bambi Linn (original Oklahoma!, 1943, and dancing Laurey in the film);
** Iva Withers (the only person to have performed the leads in Oklahoma! and Carousel on the same day on Broadway, September 17, 1945);
** Crandall Diehl (Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, 1949)
** Stuart Hodes (Paint Your Wagon, 1951)
** Hope Clarke (Kwamina, 1961);
** Paul Berne (Come Summer, 1969);
** Kathleen Marshall, Director/Choreographer who worked closely with Ms. De Lappe on the legacy of Agnes de Mille;

There will be a special appearance by Richard Skipper as Carol Channing (from the de-Mille choreographed Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, 1949) and more guests to be announced.
