24th International Ballet Competition 2010 will be held from 19th of July until 29th of July 2010 in Varna, Bulgaria’s seaside capital.
The International Ballet Competition – Varna was established in 1964. Its first edition was held from 2 to 13 July at the Open-Air Theatre in Bulgaria’s seaside capital. It is the first professional international ballet competition in the world. On this occasion the world-famous French ballet master Serge Lifar said: "The Varna Competition is a unique event in the history of ballet, an event of huge importance…"
And the great English ballet critic Mr. Arnold Haskell added: "The Ballet Competition in Varna is a remarkable example of co-operation and friendship, of high professional requirements. In Bulgaria a remarkable creative atmosphere and a perfect organization have been established. One can speak of "the spirit of Varna" with respect to ballet on an international scale.

International Ballet Academy Varna
By tradition, concurrently with the International Ballet Competition which will take place from July 19th till July 29th, 2010, the International Summer Ballet Academy will be held with the participation of internationally renowned teachers. The following categories are included in the summer academy:
I.CLASSICAL BALLET
1. Semi-advanced and pointe technique
acad.Krassimira Koldamova, Bulgaria – Laureate of the 1st International Ballet Competition – Varna, Prima Ballerina of the Sofia Opera and Ballet, tutor with the Sofia Opera and Ballet, pedagogue at the National School of Dance Art, Sofia.
2. Advanced and master class
Elisabeth Platel, France – Laureate of the 9th International Ballet Competition – Varna, Prima Ballerina of the Paris Grand Opera and Director of the Ballet School thereto.
3. Advanced "Lessons in the John Cranko System"
Tadeusz Matacz, Poland – Director of the John Cranko School, Stuttgart, Germany.
II. CHARACTER DANCE
Prof. Natalia Tarasova, Russia – Professor at the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg.
III. THEATRICAL JAZZ DANCE TECHNIQUE
Benjamin Feliksdal, the Netherlands, former first soloist of Het Nationale Ballet 1961 – 1971, international pedagogue, author of methodic dance books and member of the International Dance Council (CID)
IV. AFRO-CUBAN DANCES
Alfredo Torres Hureydiny, Cuba – internationally renowned dancer, former principal dancer of Tropicana, European Salsa Champion for 2007 .

The International Ballet Competition – Varna was established in 1964. Its first edition was held in July at the Open-Air Theatre in the biggest sea resort of Bulgaria. It is the first professional international ballet competition in the world. Highly popular is the definition of the French press that “any dancer awarded in Varna has already a guaranteed prosperity in professional ballet. Even those not awarded, on their return from Varna, are already considerably more popular in their own countries”. During the Competition concomitant events are also being held, among which the traditional International Summer Ballet Academy with classes in classical ballet, contemporary techniques and jazz. World famous pedagogues from France, Great Britain, Russia, Denmark, the USA, Holland, etc. are being invited to teach.
