At a press conference at the IFA in Berlin today, the Berliner Philharmoniker announced that it has entered into a partnership with Samsung. The aim of this partnership is to present the audiovisual concert broadcasts and recordings produced by the Berliner Philharmoniker in the best possible quality on the Internet-enabled televisions from Samsung.
Since January 2009, the Berliner Philharmoniker have been broadcasting their concerts in HD quality on their own Internet platform, the Digital Concert Hall. About 30 concerts are broadcast live each season and are then available in a video archive, which already holds more than 100 recordings. There are also background reports, interviews, and documentaries.
Thanks to a Berliner Philharmoniker App, specially developed for Samsung, videos from the Digital Concert Hall can now be watched directly via remote control on the new Samsung Smart TVs. Not only the concert recordings of the Berliner Philharmoniker are available, but also the first live broadcasts from the Digital Concert Hall to be experienced directly on TV.
The Digital Concert Hall (www.digital-concert-hall.com) is a service of Berlin Phil Media GmbH, a subsidiary of the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation. Robert Zimmerman, managing director of Berlin Phil Media said, “The increasing fusion of Internet and TV allows us to offer the concert recordings of the Berliner Philharmoniker both simply and in the best quality to our worldwide audience. In pursuing this objective, Samsung is an important new partner for us”
