The Boston International Ballet Competition (BIBC), founded and directed by Valentina Kozlova, is proud to announce that, added to its list of awards, is the Liepa Prize, named for Maris Liepa, legendary dancer, choreographer and teacher at the Bolshoi Ballet.
The Maris Liepa Fund, directed by Liepa's children Andris and Ilze, was established for the purpose of preserving and celebrating the beauty of classical ballet. Andris Liepa, former principal with the Bolshoi Ballet and one of the judges of the new BIBC, will present the award to an outstanding dancer of his choice.
BIBC announces other special prizes: scholarships to ballet schools to be announced, and a contract with the Washington Ballet II, under the direction of Septime Webre, who will also act as a judge.
The first BIBC will take place May 12-16 in John Hancock Hall, Boston, Massachusetts.
