VALENTINA KOZLOVA IS FOUNDER/DIRECTOR OF THE NEW BOSTON INTERNATIONAL BALLET COMPETITION
Valentina Kozlova is pleased to announce the first Boston International Ballet Competition, scheduled for May 12-16 in John Hancock Hall, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. A major teacher of the Vaganova method, Kozlova has also distinguished herself as both a competition judge and coach of young dancers, many of who have medaled in competitions around the world.
Kozlova, former principal dancer with the Bolshoi Ballet and New York City Ballet, notes that Competitions provide invaluable opportunities "to draw attention to special dancers, to allow company directors to see dancers in stage performances rather than in class or at auditions, and to help young dancers further their careers." Kozlova's goal is to offer these opportunities and to open doors for dancers from all over the world.
Boston International Ballet Competition (BIBC) will consist of three divisions:
- Student Division, ages 13 and 14;
- Junior Division, ages 15 to 18;
- Senior Division, ages 19-25.
The three rounds will be held May 12, 13 and 15th, with the Gala and Awards Ceremony on Monday May 16th (no event on May 14th). Performers scheduled for the Gala to date are Charles Askegard and Maria Kowroski, Whitney Jensen, the Boston Ballet.
The panel of six judges, presided over by Mikko Nissinen, Artistic Director of the Boston Ballet, will include Violette Verdy (France), Andris Liepa (Russia), Hae Shik Kim (South Korea), Septime Webre (USA), and a judge from South America to be announced. Choreographers Margo Sappington and Edwaard Liang will each create a contemporary piece, which is a compulsory dance requirement for competitors.
DEADLINE for submission of applications is February 1st. To download an application, and for further information, please visit www.bostonibc.org or e-mail info@bostonibc.org
