2011-2012 Season Announced for Opera in Cinema, Ballet in Cinema

LIMON DANCE COMPANY CURRENTLY ON TOUR IN MEXICO

 

The Limon Dance Company has just departed for a one-month tour to several cities in Mexico, starting with an April 29th performance in Culiacan, birthplace of Jose Limon. For that concert, and the May 1st performance in Mazatian, the Company will be accompanied by the Sinaloa Symphony.

The Company will then return home for its June 7-12 New York season at the Gerald W Lynch Theatre/John Jay College. Repertory includes a revival of Emperor Jones, staged by Clay Taliaferro, who learned the role from Limon.

Russian Ballet Icons Gala and Dinner Galina Ulanova 100 anniversary

 

The unique series of Russian Ballet Icons galas have been organised by Ensemble Productions annually for the last six years.

Every gala is built around a legendary name from the Russian ballet world to be a multimedia experience, combining performances by the best living masters of ballet with the history of the genre through one of the great icons of the Russian ballet stage. Previous galas have given tribute to Maya Plisetskaya (2006), Yury Grigorovich (2007), Maris Liepa (2008), Sergie Daigilev (2009) and Rudolf Nureyev (2010).

Comienza la Temporada 2011 de la Orquesta Estable del Teatro Colón bajo la batuta de Frédéric Chaslin

El próximo sábado 30 de abril, a las 20:30 horas, la Orquesta Estable del Teatro Colón, con la dirección de Frédéric Chaslin, ofrecerá un programa integrado por el Concierto para Piano y orquesta nº5 en Mi bemol mayor, “Emperador”, Op. 73 de Ludwig van Beethoven(en este caso el propio Chaslin ejecutará como solista); “Gipsy Dance”, obra de la cual es autor el propio Maestro Chaslin – en primera audición en Argentina- y “Sinfonía Fantástica”, de Héctor Berlioz.

Romeo y Julieta de Rudolf Nureyev: la mejor versión en ballet de la tragedia

 

Si bien Rudolf Nureyev creó su versión de “Romeo y Julieta”(música de Serguei Prokofiev) en 1977 para el London Festival Ballet (para “competir” con la versión de Kenneth MacMillan; yo prefiero a la de Nureyev, y también respecto de la de John Cranko), fue en el Ballet de la Ópera de París donde la re-trabajó en 1984. Ahora, la Ópera Bastille acoge a esta monumental producción de un poco más de tres horas de duración hasta el próximo 30 de abril.
