Mia Arbatova (1911 – 1990)

 

In1938, after a tour of recitals in the capitals of Europe, Mia Arbatova ,a soloist with the Riga Opera Ballet, arrived in Tel-Aviv to settle. Mia Arbatova's goal was to develop classical ballet in the country, In 1940 Mia was appointed dancer and choreographer of the " Amamit Opera".

Her marriage to the singer–actor Josef Goland initiated a partnership of various artistic activities: they established together the first satiric cabaret in Tel- Aviv, "Af-Al-Pi" ,and later the "Li-La-Lo" and "Do-Re-Mi" theaters to name a few.

Hanna Munitz, General Director of the Israeli Opera announced the 2010/11 season of the Israeli Opera, the 26th season of a company who now enjoys the support of over 18,000 subscribers.

The coming season features nine productions including a two Israeli premiere, several company premiers and three important 20th century operas.

The Israeli opera – Tel Aviv Dance 2010

The international Tel Aviv Dance 2010 presents 12 dance companies from 9 different states.

A unique collaboration in which choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, renowned sculptor Antony Gormley and composer Szymon Bróska work together with monks from the Shaolin Temple in China. A performing arts opus that combines dancing with traditional martial arts in a contemporary setting, accompanied live by 5 musicians.

The Israeli Opera – Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center

 

The Israeli Opera hosts an annual season of operatic performances at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Centre. The season runs from September to July and normally features at least eight productions, from world-renowned operas to avant-garde Israeli productions.

The Israeli Opera was founded in 1985 with a production of Dido and Aeneas, accompanied by the Israel Chamber Orchestra. Its forebears can be traced back to January 1922, when the Hebrew Opera in Eretz performed pieces by Anton Rubinstein and Tchaikovsky, accompanied by piano.
