Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur added
The Hong Kong Ballet is delighted to announce its debut at the Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur (FASS), one of Québec’s most important artistic and cultural events. The appearance at FASS will complete the Company’s three week tour of North America this summer — a total of 11 performances are planned at three festivals: FASS, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet Presents, and Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, America’s longest-running and most prestigious Dance Festival.
The Company will present three totally different contemporary works, two of which were commissioned by The Hong Kong Ballet.
Black on Black, created for The Hong Kong Ballet by Kinsun Chan in 2011, explores the fascinating duality of the colour black, and reflects every facet of black’s symbolism. Black on Black will have its US première at the Jacob’s Pillow Festival. The choreographer incorporates his fascination with body language and gestures into this ballet of power, passion and surprise.
Chan’s ballet is complemented by Peter Quanz’s Luminous, an emotionally-charged ballet about the fragility of human relationships, the tension between the genders and the qualities drawn out of us by each passing alliance.
Completing the programme is Nils Christe’s Symphony in Three Movements, originally created for the Royal Ballet of Flanders. Set to Stravinsky’s work of the same name, Christe’s ballet is inspired by the complex concepts connected with war, including fear, anger, hiding, running and saying goodbye.
