Mikhailovsky Theatre’s 180th Season Opened on 13 September

This season is dedicated to the build-up to a landmark date: the 180 year anniversary of the founding of the Mikhailovsky Theatre. This date will be celebrated in a year’s time, in autumn 2013. Vladimir Kekhman, the Mikhailovsky Theatre’s General Director, has been talking about the Theatre’s plans.

The 180th season opened on 13 September with the ballet Giselle, ou Les Wilis. The leading roles were performed by Polina Semionova and Marcelo Gomes. These world-famous dancers will regularly appear throughout the season on the stage of the Mikhailovsky Theatre, both in the classical and contemporary repertoires.

Vaganova Ballet Academy Prepares for the Grand Prix

The Mikhailovsky Theatre Grand Prix will take place on 21 and 22 November, and among those taking part, by tradition, will be pupils from the Vaganova Ballet Academy.

Participation in the Grand Prix is one of the most important stages in the preparations for a significant date: in May 2013 the Vaganova Ballet Academy will celebrate its 275th anniversary. There will be special concerts in St. Petersburg and Moscow to mark the occasion.

This year Nacho Duato, who considers his collaboration with the Ballet Academy to be of fundamental importance, has offered the students his famous ballet Na Floresta to the music of Heitor Villa-Lobos.

«Less is more»

Sembla que la violència és inherent a l’ésser humà. La particularitat del segle XX no és tant la barbàrie de la violència, sinó la indiferència i la insensibilització envers el dolor aliè. I no és d’estranyar, ja que contínuament els mitjans de comunicació ens bombardegen amb imatges punyents, cada cop més cruentes, amb les quals convivim i que formen part del nostre dia a dia. El món virtual no ens ajuda precisament a ser conscients d’aquesta indiferència; més aviat la violència és reforçada i nosaltres ens convertim, conscient o inconscientment, en els principals canalitzadors.

Del 28 de octubre al 7 de noviembre, volverá a ser noticia el Festival Internacional de Ballet de La Habana, uno de los eventos más antiguos y prestigiosos de su tipo en el mundo.

Esta vigésimo tercera edición ha proclamado como su tema central «La Tradición y los nuevos caminos» y en su programación comprenderá, entre otros clásicos, El lago de los cisnes, Coppélia, La bella durmiente del bosque, Giselle y otras obras emblemáticas del repertorio del Ballet Nacional de Cuba (BNC), como Shakespeare y sus máscaras, una muy peculiar versión de Romeo y Julieta, con música de Gounod.

La Scala de Milán repasa los clásicos de la danza

Los Teatros del Canal acogen desde este viernes al próximo domingo a la Escuela de Baile de la Academia del Teatro alla Scala de Milán que recorrerá diversas etapas del ballet clásico y la danza, desde el fabuloso Ottocento tardo romántico de los ballets de Marius Petisa, al Novecento de maestros como Angelin Preljocaj, Roland Petit y Jirí Kylián.

La Escuela de Baile, fundada en 1813 y, desde 2006, dirigida por Frédéric Olivieri, representa el corazón del Departamento de Danza, una de las cuatro áreas en las que se divide la oferta formativa de la Academia del Teatro alla Scala, junto con Música, Artes Escénicas y Dirección.

MULTI-YEAR ENGAGEMENT TO BEGIN WITH 12 PERFORMANCES SCHEDULED OCTOBER 30-NOVEMBER 10, 2013

American Ballet Theatre will perform a Fall season, October 30-November 10, 2013, at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, it was announced today by Rachel S. Moore, ABT’s Chief Executive Officer. The engagement begins a multi-year agreement with the Koch Theater, the terms of which include two weeks of performances each Fall through 2015.
